ACCOUNTANT
Job purpose:

The Accountant will report to the respective Accounting Manager. The accountant will assist in the Accounting Division with the accounting consulting needs of clients. The accounting consulting services that the accountant will be involved in are as follows:

    • Assistance with complex accounting standards: The Accountant will be assisting clients with complex accounting standards, such as IFRS 17, IFRS 9, IAS 19, IFRS 3 and IFRS 16. The assistance would include implementation of standards, as well as applying the standards to other complex transactions.

    • General accounting services: The accountant will assist the manager in the preparation of a full set of interim and annual financial statements, regular reporting, decluttering financial statements and other finance related activities. The accountant may be required to perform these duties for clients.

    • Business advisory: The accountant will assist in the compilation and submission of the relevant regulatory required documents as well as assisting clients with accounting system implementation testing.

    • Taxation: The accountant will be assisting with the preparation and submission of statutory tax returns.

Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications and requirements

    • NQF level 7 relevant qualification i.e. BCom Accounting Degree and/or BCom Hons (CTA)

    • Exposure to audit / accounting in the financial services sector will be an advantage.

    • Sound knowledge of finance, accounting and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).

    • Knowledge of relevant software packages i.e. Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.

    • Must have good communication, planning, organizing, and report writing skills.


Duties and responsibilities

    • Prepare technical sound accounting memos for transactions on complex accounting standards (IFRS 17, IFRS 9, IAS 19, IFRS 3 and IFRS 16).

    • Bookkeeping and capturing from source documents (i.e. invoices to records).

    • Facilitate month end close and account reconciliation for our clients.

    • Involvement with monthly close procedures, financial statement preparation, and regulatory filing requirements for clients.

    • Assist in preparing financial statements for clients for interim and year end reporting.

    • Assist in the processes of implementing new IFRS standards.

    • Assist in system implementation.

    • Participating in various ad-hoc projects.

    • Assist in preparing proposal for prospective clients.

    • General office and division support for other departments within the firm.

    • Remain up to date with IASB announcements, papers, and discussions.

    • Perform non client facing role adequately and adding value to the accounting division and reporting progress on the role to Accounting Manager/Accounting Senior Manager/Accounting Division Head.
